Position Overview

This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years, or more based on any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service.

The National Park Service retains the right to extend the duration of this appointment after selection and/or appointment, based on changes to the regulation governing the number of years term appointments may last. This change, which may be made at the agency's sole discretion and without further competition, shall not be construed or interpreted as the granting of a right to a selectee or employee to such an extension. No extension to a term appointment shall be granted to a selectee/employee to an amount of time that exceeds the maximum number of years authorized under any present or current regulation, unless such regulation expressly allows such action.

Major Responsibilities:

Deliver visual and audio production services across all park divisions, adhering to established national guidelines and industry standards. Strategize the visual components of printed materials including photographs, illustrations, diagrams, graphs, models, slides, and charts utilized in various communication formats such as books, magazines, pamphlets, exhibits, and digital content. Design layouts for two and three-dimensional models, artifacts, specimens, dioramas, murals, and audio-visual presentations. Utilize electronic devices to enhance displays or enable viewer access to information. May create special effects through advanced techniques. Contribute to the development of exhibits and prepare interpretive media, including streaming video and interactive kiosks, while ensuring compliance with universal design principles. Manage the visual information aspects of public affairs initiatives. Facilitate public outreach through multimedia efforts, conveyed through printed materials, exhibits, and presentations. Ensure that digital content complies with relevant laws and accessibility standards. For positions at National Parks of New York Harbor/ Manhattan Sites, responsibilities will include enhancing information management, improving virtual presence, and focusing on accessibility compliance in civic engagement.

Employment Conditions

U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. A valid driver's license is required for operating a government or private motor vehicle as part of official duties. Compliance with National Park Service uniform standards is mandatory. The position may require on-call work, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Applicants must be at least 18 years old or meet specific educational criteria.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement unless otherwise stated. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume must clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position.

Experience: A minimum of one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, such as providing visual and audio production services, planning and designing visual materials, and utilizing technology for visual communication.

Education: A master's degree or two years of progressively higher-level graduate education in a related field may also qualify.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work that builds critical competencies and skills relevant to the position.

Education Documentation: A legible copy of transcripts must be submitted with your application, showing relevant coursework and qualifications.
