Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Sales Representative to join our team at Sherwood Lumber Corporation. As a Sales Representative, you will be responsible for strengthening our mill footprints, achieving customer acquisition and revenue growth objectives by generating interest, qualifying prospects, and executing trades.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform customer interaction by making outgoing calls and receiving incoming customer calls/emails daily.
  • Source new sales opportunities through inbound and outbound prospecting calls and emails.
  • Understand accounts, identify key players, and generate interest.
  • Generate new business and ensure growth of existing accounts, strengthen mill footprint and growth.
  • Gain and retain extensive product knowledge as well as detailed comprehension of customer requirements.
  • Prepare and send valuable offers daily.
  • Engage in quotation and flexible price negotiation for transactional orders in order to satisfy customer needs while maximizing profit.
  • Execute timely and accurate trades based on market data, movement, and prices.
  • Provide competitive market intelligence and insights to prospects and customers.
  • Enter orders for all types of sales, including inventory, directs, back-to-back, forward, and block business on both delivered and customer pick-up basis.
  • Purchase product for various types of sales.
  • Handle inbound calls and provide callers with product and service information.
  • Field customer support calls, following up on matters such as deliveries, claims, returns, and other customer requests.
  • Review dispatch log, daily invoices, A/R alerts, and other system-generated reports, make calls to follow up when required.
  • Maintain and review sales and profit goals on a regular basis.
  • Participate in daily sales meetings and other various team meetings.
  • Visit customers on a regular basis, entertain customers outside of normal business hours, and continually develop customer relationships with thank you notes and other small tokens of appreciation; submit detailed customer visit reports to management and other team members.
  • Attend outings, shows, and conventions as directed by management.
  • Submit customer sponsorship requests to management in a timely manner.
  • Provide management with suggestions that will improve our company.
  • Attend company-sponsored, management seminars, and webinars designed to help sales associates make good, high-level decisions.
  • Maintain a self-discipline to enhance skills and education through reading, listening to audio, and attending programs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
  • Computer skills required: Microsoft Office Suite
  • 4+ years' experience in sales or a related field (experience in building materials a plus)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong team player, work ethic, and commitment to job
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to establish mutually beneficial commitments and expectations with customers
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work closely with peers on team-oriented goals
  • Ability to follow company directives and instruction
