Job Summary

The Boston University is seeking a highly skilled Tax and Reporting Supervisor to join its Financial Affairs department. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for overseeing the preparation of tax documents, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and leading special projects related to tax and regulatory matters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate the preparation of federal, state, and international tax returns, estimates, and annual reports.
  • Develop and maintain due diligence processes for partnership K-1s and identify reportable unrelated business income for federal and state, and foreign filing requirements.
  • Assist in the review of Form 990 and 990-T, compiling and analyzing University data, and gathering information from various departments.
  • Review work papers to support tax filings, including Excise Tax, Sales & Meals Tax, and others.
  • Perform tax research as needed for offices and departments, addressing new activities and legislative changes.
  • Communicate with and manage relationships with outside tax professionals and tax software providers.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with key departments, such as the Investment Office and the Office of Global Programs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
  • 8 years of accounting experience, preferably in public accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Advanced skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, including complex formulas to acquire, organize, and analyze data.
  • Ability to analyze data to determine relevant conclusions and suggest appropriate actions to management.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and ad-hoc requests to meet or exceed deadlines.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented, demonstrating accuracy and quality of work output.
  • Ability to work independently and/or collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, intellectually curious.
Preferred Skills
  • CPA certification.
  • Experience with ERP and/or SAP systems.
  • Experience in non-profit industry or higher education.
