Position Summary
The Specialty Services Nurse Supervisor is responsible for performing clinical nursing duties predominantly while overseeing and coordinating the activities of nursing staff within patient care units. This role is essential for collaborating with nursing leadership to ensure effective operations and support for staff, physicians, and other healthcare providers on clinical matters. The Supervisor is expected to maintain a long-term commitment to the role, utilizing both clinical and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute clinical duties while supervising nursing personnel.
- Plan and coordinate clinical requirements for nursing staff, ensuring all competencies are up to date.
- Assist in the management of staff schedules, submitting for managerial approval.
- Coordinate clinical needs regarding equipment and supplies.
- Provide regular consultation with preceptors and orienteers to support individual orientation processes.
- Work collaboratively with management to resolve issues and enhance workflow through quality improvement initiatives.
- Engage with various departments to address challenges and streamline processes.
- Participate in the interview process for new nursing candidates.
- Mentor and coach nursing staff to foster professional growth.
- Evaluate the performance of new hires and provide constructive feedback.
- Communicate potential clinical equipment or supply issues to relevant team members.
- Deliver ongoing education and skill assessments to nursing staff.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Facilitate a culture of open communication and teamwork among healthcare professionals.
Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
- Valid Registered Nurse license in North Carolina or a state with reciprocity.
- A minimum of five years of nursing experience, including two years in critical care, emergency, or recovery settings.
- Two years of leadership experience in a supervisory capacity.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) must be obtained post-hire.
- Valid driver's license in North Carolina.
Knowledge and Skills
- Understanding of nursing principles and practices to meet diverse patient needs.
- Ability to apply the nursing process effectively in clinical settings.
- Knowledge of medications, their effects, and appropriate nursing interventions.
- Proficient in operating specialized medical equipment.
- Strong organizational skills to manage workload and priorities.
Work Environment
The role involves moderate physical demands, including walking, standing, and lifting. Exposure to various health risks is present, necessitating adherence to safety protocols and guidelines.
