Markel, a Fortune 300 Company, is on the lookout for a Product Marketing Specialist to become part of the Markel Specialty marketing team, which operates within the insurance sector of Markel Corporation. This individual will collaborate with a seasoned and entrepreneurial group of professionals whose efforts directly influence growth targets and business strategies through brand promotion, digital marketing, product advocacy, and external communications/public relations initiatives. A primary focus of this position is to provide essential support to the product line leadership team, as well as underwriting, business development, and regional teams for our professional liability product offerings. The ideal candidate will possess prior experience in marketing, communications, design, or a related field, along with familiarity or relevant experience in the insurance sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the marketing liaison for the professional liability product line leadership team while supporting underwriting and business development efforts.
  • Collaborate with leadership to comprehend and document business objectives, targeted growth areas, distribution strategies, etc., to formulate, implement, and execute marketing plans and campaigns for professional liability products and services that align with the established business goals/objectives, ensuring timely and budget-conscious delivery.
  • Acquire in-depth knowledge of professional liability products, complemented by a broad understanding of related fields.
  • Serve as a content steward by creating, updating, and refining marketing materials and content (both digital and print) regularly for assigned product lines or areas through a meticulous inventory and audit process.
  • Oversee projects and engage in structured assignments of varying scope, consistently delivering high-quality work punctually and within budget.
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness and performance of marketing initiatives and campaigns.
  • Conduct market analysis to enhance awareness of the latest insurance products, services, regulations, and industry trends to identify opportunities, customer needs, preferences, and trends beneficial to Markel.
  • Build effective relationships with key stakeholders across the organization.
  • Collaborate with underwriters to evaluate marketing requirements, establish product line value propositions, emphasize Markel's competitive strengths, identify opportunities for improvement, and create impactful marketing campaigns.
  • Analyze data and trends, adjusting plans as necessary.
  • Research and inform the organization about competitor and industry practices.
  • Work alongside shared services (e.g., claims and loss control).
  • Provide guidance and support for product-specific conference planning and assist in identifying new opportunities as needed.
  • Complete assigned recurring tasks punctually and with the expected quality.
  • Foster strong collaboration with team members, sharing creative and innovative strategies to support all aspects of marketing, including brand management, event marketing, direct marketing, email, web, and social media.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree with 2-4 years of experience in marketing, consulting, or a similar creative/problem-solving environment is required; experience in the insurance industry is preferred.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of self-motivation and the ability to work effectively both independently with senior leaders and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the capability to manage projects and prioritize workload effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience with Adobe design programs is a plus.
