Overview

Biological Sciences Adjunct Instructor

Compensation: $5,000 - $6,000 per 5-contract-hour course

Classification: Adjunct Faculty

Reporting To: Dean of MESH

Olympic College is seeking qualified adjunct faculty to instruct courses in Biological Sciences. The institution aims to attract dynamic educators who have a proven track record of effectively engaging students from diverse backgrounds, including varying ages, cultures, races, and socio-economic statuses within the classroom environment.

Part-time faculty positions are continuously open and evaluated on a quarterly basis. Applicants who enter the candidate pool remain active for 12 months from their application date and may be contacted when opportunities arise. Submission of an application does not guarantee the availability of a position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver college-level courses as outlined in the college catalog and adhere to departmental guidelines.
  • Ensure high-quality instruction, including preparation and assessment of student work.
  • Provide course syllabi to enrolled students and the division office as required.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of courses and student performance in a timely manner.
  • Evening instruction may be required.
  • Communicate effectively and promptly with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • Master's degree in Biology or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching at the college level.
  • Ph.D. in Biology or a related field from an accredited institution.

Employment Terms

Note that visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Only candidates authorized to work in the United States will be considered.

Faculty members must submit official, unopened transcripts to the Human Resources department within 30 days of their employment.

This adjunct faculty role is contracted on a quarterly basis, with the salary range reflecting quarterly compensation. A collective bargaining agreement is in place, and this position is governed by the Association for Higher Education (AHE). Flexibility is essential to meet departmental needs, which may include evening and/or weekend classes, instruction at satellite campuses, and off-campus assignments.
Adjunct positions are continuously open and reviewed quarterly. Applicants remain active for 12 months from their application date and may be contacted when vacancies arise. Applying does not guarantee a position will be available or offered.
Adjuncts are not eligible for benefits upon initial hire but may qualify after working 50 percent of a full-time load for two consecutive quarters. Additional hours at other SBCTC colleges may count towards this requirement. Initial benefits eligibility includes a Deferred Compensation Program (DRS) retirement savings plan, TIAA supplemental retirement savings plan, sick leave, Aflac, space-available tuition waiver, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), fitness center access, and priority consideration for on-site childcare (space available).
