Role Summary:

The Surgical Technologist II is accountable for establishing and maintaining a sterile environment for surgical procedures. This includes the preparation of sterile instruments, assisting surgeons with gowning and gloving, and draping patients appropriately for surgery. The role involves direct support to the surgical team during procedures by providing instruments and supplies, holding retractors, and anticipating the needs of the surgeons throughout the operation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain the sterile field for surgical interventions.
  • Assist in the setup of surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Support the surgical team by passing instruments and anticipating needs during procedures.
  • Manage the distribution of supplies and perform maintenance on equipment as required.
  • Adhere to all relevant regulations and policies to ensure patient safety and privacy.
  • May participate in training and orienting new staff members.

Work Schedule:

This position operates on a Day Shift schedule, with variable start times, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Completion of a Surgical Technician Program or equivalent education and experience.

Certifications:

  • CST - Certified Surgical Technologist preferred.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification required.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 6 months of current experience in a multispecialty surgical department, with internship experience considered.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Fundamental understanding of human anatomy.
  • Familiarity with sterilization processes and aseptic techniques.
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance and care.
  • Awareness of safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Comprehensive understanding of surgical and endoscopic procedures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations.

Employment Details:

This is a full-time position with a standard workweek of 40 hours. Weekend work is not required. The role is classified as Non-Exempt and is part of a union.
