As a Tissue Processing Specialist, your responsibilities will encompass but are not limited to:

Key Responsibilities:
Transporting tissue specimens to the laboratory.
Executing immunohistochemical and in-situ hybridization procedures, including the management and storage of probes and antibodies.
Evaluating and interpreting assays for sensitivity and specificity.
Embedding and preparing sections by cutting frozen or paraffin-embedded tissue for immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization, or other specialized procedures.
Mounting, labeling, and distributing prepared microscope slides to pathologists or designated areas for analysis.
Preparing reagents, buffers, solutions, and stains.
Replacing reagents and conducting daily maintenance on automated equipment.
Organizing surgical and autopsy blocks utilized for immunohistochemical techniques.
Other assigned duties as necessary.

Educational Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in biology, microbiology, chemistry, or a related field; or fulfills the CLIA qualifications for Histotechnologist (HTL). Familiarity with OSHA regulations regarding chemical hygiene and bloodborne pathogens.

Certifications:
Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) certification or certification eligibility by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

Complexity of Work:
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the capacity to work with minimal supervision.
Must be able to function in a highly technical, demanding environment and take appropriate actions.

Work Experience:
Prior hands-on laboratory experience from an accredited Histotechnology program or one year of relevant histology laboratory experience is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Requires manual dexterity and visual acuity when handling specimens, slides, and utilizing equipment.

Ability to safely manage potentially infectious patient specimens, carcinogenic substances, odorous, and other hazardous materials to which they may be exposed.

Typical physical demands include the ability to sit, stand, or walk extensively.

Adheres to standard precautions using personal protective equipment as necessary.
