Histology Technician Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Histology Technician to join our team at Altasciences. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing quality tissue samples for histopathologic evaluation, identifying tissue samples for proper embedding orientation, and performing microtomy skills for routine paraffin and frozen tissue samples. You will also be responsible for preparing reagents and performing routine hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining, as well as non-routine histochemical staining and manual/automated immunohistochemistry (IHC) procedures. Additionally, you will perform quality control procedures on all prepared microscope slides and maintain a clean and orderly laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain and document the use and maintenance of laboratory equipment
• Maintain a safe, clean and orderly laboratory environment
• Perform paraffin tissue processing procedures
• Identify required tissue sample orientation and perform paraffin embedding procedures
• Use microtomy skills in the preparation of routine (paraffin embedded) and frozen and microscopic slides according to standard operating procedures and/or required by study protocols
• Prepare stains/reagents according to standard operating procedure and protocol requirements
• Perform routine hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining as well as cover slipping microscopic slides
• Prepare reagents/stains and perform non-routine histochemical staining procedures to emphasize particular tissue elements and analyses tissue samples used as positive/negative controls
• Perform quality control procedures on all prepared microscope slides
• Troubleshoot equipment and/or operation failures and takes appropriate actions to keep interruptions to a minimum
• Analyze raw data collection and solve for deviation in standard operating procedures (SOP) and/or protocol requirements
• Create and revise standard operating procedures if needed
• Contribute to innovative process development and quality improvement
• Order warehouse supplies and data entry to laboratory inventory records
• Dispose of hazardous chemical, generate the hazardous chemical lab pack and data entry to the laboratory hazardous chemical records
Requirements
• Bachelor of Science degree (BS), preferred. AA with equivalent experience and training
• Identification of tissue organs and/or tissue samples
• Microtomy skills
• Routine H&E staining and special histochemical staining
• Immunohistochemistry procedures
• Paraffin and plastic/resin tissue processing
• HT (ASCP), HTL (ASCP) or QIHC (ASCP) preferred

The pay range estimated for this position is $21.73 - $28.98 per hour. Please note that hourly rates/salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, prior relevant experience, skills, education, certification, location as well as internal equity and market data.
