Position Overview
Under the supervision of the Chief Custodian, the Custodian is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and healthy environment within the educational facilities. This role involves cleaning, performing minor maintenance tasks, snow removal, and grounds upkeep. The Custodian will adhere to state regulations and district policies to support the effective operation of the educational program. This is a year-round position.

Key Responsibilities
The following outlines the primary duties associated with this role, though additional tasks may be assigned as necessary:
  • Note: Night Shift roles commence after 1:00 PM.
  • This position is classified as Essential Employee.
  • Flexibility in hours is required, as schedules may change.
  • Perform various cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, waxing, buffing, vacuuming, and sanitizing restrooms and common areas.
  • Conduct minor maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, painting, and assisting with boiler cleaning.
  • Transport equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Complete other custodial and maintenance duties as directed by supervisory staff.
  • Secure the building at the start and end of each shift to ensure safety and cleanliness.
  • Maintain cleanliness in all areas including classrooms, hallways, and cafeterias.
  • Handle grounds maintenance including snow removal and debris clearance.
  • Assist with deliveries and storage of supplies.
  • Manage waste disposal and support recycling initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid Class D Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Ability to perform minor maintenance tasks.
  • Capability to follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
  • Good physical health and strength to perform lifting and cleaning tasks.
Physical Requirements
This position requires effective communication skills and the ability to perform tasks that involve moderate physical exertion, including lifting objects weighing 40-50 pounds and standing for extended periods.

Environmental Conditions
The work environment is primarily within educational facilities.
