Custodial Services Supervisor

The Custodial Services Supervisor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the daily activities of custodial crews on cleaning and upkeep of public buildings and facilities. This role ensures the safety and upkeep of facilities for employees and the general public.
Key Responsibilities:
- Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow.
- Issues written and oral instructions to subordinates on work product, priorities, timelines, and task specifications.
- Assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to specifications.
- Studies and standardizes procedures to improve department and employee productivity.
- Maintains harmony among subordinates, and resolves conflicts and grievances
- Prepares work summaries and reports for submission to management.
- Works with subordinates to address errors, omissions, and complaints in order to maintain effective customer relations.
- Assists subordinates in performing their duties and provides training on the correct operation of equipment to ensure adherence to OSHA safety practices and guidelines.
- Performs direct supervision of all assigned custodians.
- Records and maintains job activity logs.
- Conducts employee performance evaluations, recommends disciplinary actions and resolves employee complaints.
- Maintains inventory, requisition supplies and equipment, assists in the preparation of the division budget and administers budget for the division.
- Works with Building Maintenance Supervisor concerning reporting of building maintenance requirements.
- Oversees the functions and daily work of the custodial staff and ensures buildings and facilities are clean and maintained.
- Performs custodial duties in the event there is a shortage of custodial staff.
Requirements:
- High School Graduate or equivalent
- Minimum number of years of directly related experience: Six years directly related work experience and/or training in custodial and building maintenance with at least one year in a supervisory position.
- Some college coursework
- Frequent Driver Regular Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of custodial cleaning equipment use and upkeep, OSHA Safety Standards
- Knowledge of tools and equipment used in building maintenance construction
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
Working Conditions:
- Works with other department supervisors and managers on routine assignments and special projects
- Works with other divisions/departments concerning custodial requirements and resolves complaints
