Job Title: Psychologist - Lvl I

NYC Health Hospitals is seeking a skilled Psychologist to join our team in a Level I assignment. The successful candidate will work closely with our interdisciplinary team to provide psychological support to patients engaging in intensive therapeutic lifestyle change and adult primary care practice.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide psychological evaluation and support to patients in both programs
  • Address psychopathology, body image, self-esteem, social support, and quality of life stemming from chronic medical conditions
  • Evaluate and provide therapy for conditions such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, disordered eating, chronic pain, sleep disturbances, illness anxiety, specific phobias, and adjustment to disability
  • Participate in the development of treatment plans in coordination with medical providers, registered dietitians, and health coaches
  • Develop differential diagnoses for patients and ensure proper referral to MD or behavioral health department for medication evaluations as needed
  • Coordinate with psychiatrists when needed in managing patient care
  • Provide documentation of clinical services as per departmental guidelines
  • Assist with case management needs for a complex population facing many barriers in the community
  • Create a safe, therapeutic environment for patients with obesity and other chronic health conditions
  • Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to support lifestyle change and manage medical conditions
  • Participate in and lead various group meetings, including emotional eating, mindfulness, stress reduction, body image, and support groups
  • Participate in continuing education and/or other appropriate activities to maintain current licensure
  • Undergo training in nutrition and lifestyle medicine as offered by the program
Requirements:
  • Completion of two years of graduate work in Psychology, consisting of at least sixty graduate semester credits in an accredited graduate program leading to a Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Clinical Health Psychology, or Neuro-Psychology
  • Two years of satisfactory, full-time experience gained after admission to the accredited graduate program in one of these areas, under the supervision of a qualified Psychologist or Psychiatrist
  • A Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Clinical Health Psychology, or Neuro-Psychology
  • Completion of respecialization in Clinical Psychology from an accredited program plus one year of satisfactory, full-time experience as described above
  • License as a Psychologist issued by the New York State Department of Education
