Job Summary

The Speech and Language Therapist will provide direct services to students identified with a speech or language impairment, supporting students in grades K-8 by screening, evaluating, diagnosing, and treating disorders of speech and language communication.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing direct treatment to target goals in student's speech production, vocal production, and language deficits
  • Delivering pre-referral speech/language interventions in Tier 1 and Tier 2
  • Documenting and collecting data on all consultation sessions and providing regular assessments to monitor student progress
  • Conducting student screenings and/or assessments of language, voice, fluency, articulation, or hearing
  • Developing and implementing high-quality, legally compliant individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Writing high-quality evaluation and reevaluation reports
  • Maintaining student files and treatment logs in an organized manner
  • Attending and participating in meetings as required (IEP, Exceptional Education, Professional Development, etc.)
  • Providing a loving, exciting, joyful learning environment for speech and language services
  • Completing other school-related duties as assigned
  • Developing instructional materials and evaluating commercially available materials for treatment
  • Keeping current on the latest developments in the field of speech therapy
  • Providing support and training to school staff and families regarding the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices
  • Managing time efficiently and following a schedule

Requirements

  • Valid Speech/Language endorsement in Tennessee (498)
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field, Master's Degree preferred
  • Prior school experience preferred, including development of IEPs
  • Commitment to thoughtfully engaging in identity work necessary to take a culturally responsive approach to pedagogy and relationship-building with students and colleagues
  • Strong organizational skills with unrelenting attention to detail and follow-through
  • Maturity, humility, sense of humor, and love for students, staff, and families
  • Commitment to building a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community
  • Track record of managing teams of adults, building relationships and trust with colleagues and other stakeholders
