Job Summary

This position is responsible for processing all hospital and physician practices telephone and written correspondence regarding chart requests by hospital employees, physicians, patients, insurance companies, Disability, CMS, RAC, HEDIS insurance audits, attorneys, and regulatory agencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Stay up to date on HIPAA Rules and Federal Laws regarding Release of Information.
  • Act as liaison between the Health Information Management Department and other hospital departments, physicians, patients, and external customers.
  • Retrieve, prep, scan, and analyze medical records for completion.
  • Answer telephone calls and emails for medical record requests for continued patient care.
  • Perform quality reviews of scanned documents.
  • Manage My Patient Portal and ECW Portal requests, enrollment, troubleshooting, and implementing upgrades.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of six months medical/business office experience.
  • Preferred: Release of Information knowledge and business/clerical office experience, Electronic Medical Record and Meditech experience.
Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively and tactfully communicate with patients and their families and guests, co-workers, managers, providers, and other hospital personnel.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to carry out duties in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work well under stress, problem-solve, multi-task in a fast-paced setting, and work well in a team environment.
  • Developed computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office, telephone system, and ability to learn and proficiently perform computer applications related to department operations and job function.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • High degree of accuracy with concentration and close attention to detail.
  • Ability to be discreet and protect the integrity of any confidential matter or information encountered during the performance of job duties.
