Job Title: Instructional Aide

ChanceLight Behavioral Health, Therapy, & Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Instructional Aide to join our team. As an Instructional Aide, you will play a vital role in providing individualized supervision and instruction to assigned students, as well as additional support to the core classroom staff.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist classroom teachers in creating a safe and welcoming atmosphere for students, promoting high expectations of student learning.
  • Implement on-site and community-based curriculum instruction and behavioral intervention strategies consistent with the goals and objectives of each student.
  • Instruct and monitor students during lessons in the classroom, ensuring fidelity of instruction and utilizing instructional strategies to assist with student learning.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students, communicating with the classroom teacher on overall progress or interventions needed.
  • Manage student behavior, upholding the Ombudsman philosophy and policies, and applying appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary.
  • Support and counsel students with academic issues, providing encouragement and working with students to improve their community, vocational, leisure, domestic, academic, and social skills.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation on student behavior, reporting observations to relevant staff and/or making recommendations based on observations.
  • Assist in the preparation of other behavioral reports and daily activities logs as required.
  • Communicate necessary information to students, team members, supervisors, and parents regarding students' needs and academic progress in collaboration with classroom teacher and principal.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of student information and records.
  • Participate in the assurance and accreditation process to ensure that the site passes or meets performance plans.
  • Participate in school, student/parent, and student advisory meetings as requested.
  • Respond constructively to formal and informal feedback.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent with passage of basic skills test.
  • Associate degree or higher in an education or closely related field preferred.
  • Licensed as or have the ability to obtain a paraprofessional, paraeducator, teaching assistant, or similar credential preferred.
  • Prior experience working with children, preferably in an alternative or special education program setting.
  • Prior experience working with individuals with autism spectrum-related disabilities, emotional behavioral disorders, and/or challenging behaviors preferred.
  • Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency situation and make independent decisions.
  • Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students that help move them toward realistic goals and next steps.
  • Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem-solving, and decision-making ability.
  • Knowledge of relevant technology, including experience with instructional technology, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry, and basic office equipment.
