Position Overview

The National Corn to Ethanol Research Center (NCERC) is seeking a Visiting Research Fellow to join our team. This fellowship is designed for recent graduates holding a bachelor's or master's degree, or a two-year degree in a STEM discipline. Funded through a dedicated account, this program aims to equip emerging engineers and scientists with practical experience and training for careers in the bioeconomy.

Role and Responsibilities

The Visiting Research Fellow will engage in various research initiatives, contributing specialized expertise that complements the existing staff. Responsibilities include:

  • Operating bioreactors, from small-scale shaker flasks to large 22,000 L systems.
  • Troubleshooting and maintaining fermentation equipment.
  • Conducting analytical tests and developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Collecting, analyzing, and reporting data.
  • Designing and managing research projects.
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

Applicants must be recent graduates from a relevant STEM program.

Funding Source

This position is supported by the Illinois Corn Growers Association through a Sponsored Foundation Account.

Compensation

The salary for this fellowship is set at $30,628 for a nine-month appointment.
