Job Overview

Position Summary

The Community Violence Prevention Specialist role is a full-time position, requiring 40 hours per week. This position focuses on building trust within the community and among individuals at the highest risk of violence, aiming to prevent incidents and provide access to positive alternatives such as education, employment, and social services. As part of a collaborative team, the specialist will actively engage with high-risk individuals to mediate conflicts, promote positive behaviors, and facilitate access to essential resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with local outreach partners to mediate conflicts and respond to incidents of violence.
  • Participate in outreach meetings to strengthen community ties.
  • Establish relationships with high-risk individuals and their networks.
  • Communicate the mission of violence prevention and encourage community members to report potential incidents.
  • Intervene in situations where violence is imminent, including potential retaliatory actions.
  • Analyze incidents of violence to improve future response strategies.
  • Build trust with community members to facilitate open communication regarding violence prevention.
  • Provide timely responses to crisis situations as needed.
  • Engage actively in designated areas to promote positive community interactions.
  • Conduct outreach activities to gather information, build relationships, and de-escalate conflicts.
  • Make referrals to additional services based on individual needs.
  • Maintain a caseload of 10-15 high-risk individuals, providing tailored support.
  • Facilitate one-on-one support sessions and group discussions to promote conflict resolution and positive behavior changes.
  • Connect individuals with case managers to enhance access to community programs.
  • Document interactions and services provided to support data collection efforts.
  • Participate in community outreach initiatives to strengthen relationships with residents and local organizations.
  • Respond to incidents in other communities as necessary, coordinating with relevant outreach programs.

Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in street outreach or related fields.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to nonviolence and restorative justice principles.
  • Experience working collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Familiarity with the community dynamics of the service areas.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
