Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Police Officer I to join our team at the Town of Blacksburg, VA. As a Police Officer I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of general police assignments, including enforcing laws, investigating criminal activity, and ensuring the safety of the public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enforce laws and regulations to maintain public safety and order
  • Investigate crimes and collect evidence to support investigations
  • Respond to emergency calls and provide assistance as needed
  • Prepare detailed reports and records of incidents and activities
  • Provide police escorts and direct traffic as needed
  • Perform residential and commercial checks to ensure public safety
  • Interview victims and witnesses to gather information and evidence
  • Participate in in-service and special training programs to enhance skills and knowledge
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED Certification required
  • Possession of Basic Law Enforcement Certification or ability to obtain via attendance of Academy
  • Valid state-issued driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make quick decisions in emergency situations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
