Job Title: English as a Second Language Teacher

Carmen Schools of Science and Technology is seeking a dedicated and passionate English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher to join our team. As an ESL Teacher, you will play a vital role in ensuring the mission of Carmen to serve ALL students is alive and well across our campuses.

The ESL Teacher will provide instruction and support to English Language Learner (ELL) students K-12th grade, guiding them toward gaining proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. You will work under the direction of the Principal in conjunction with the Director of Student Services.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide EL push in and/or pull out instruction to students
  • Assist in administering required language proficiency and academic achievement tests for determining placement and ongoing monitoring of student progress
  • Communicate language needs and progress of ELL students with classroom teachers, administrators, and families
  • Work with classroom teachers to support differentiated instruction
  • Establish relationships with ELL parents, including those who don't speak English
  • Be flexible in terms of teaching assignment within the school setting
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and teaching strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students
Requirements:
  • Absolute belief in the ability of all students to learn and achieve and commitment to ending educational inequity in Milwaukee
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Wisconsin DPI license in (395) English as a Second Language
  • Three (3) or more years as a successful classroom teacher
  • Significant school experience working with English Language Learners
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational ability in working with administrators, staff, students, parents, and the community
  • Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of service and response
  • Access to vehicle/reliable transportation to travel between school campuses on a daily/weekly basis
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English required
Work Environment:

The position will work predominantly Monday - Friday; however, this position will require work on evenings and weekends as necessary.
