Role of the Patient Care Technician (PCT)

The Patient Care Technician plays a vital role in assisting patients with end-stage renal disease, collaborating with clinical staff throughout the dialysis treatment process to ensure the delivery of prescribed therapies. Our PCTs are key members of the interdisciplinary team, committed to providing safe care and achieving the highest quality outcomes for each patient.

Work Schedule: Full-time shifts may consist of four 10-hour days or three 12-hour days, typically from 4:30 AM to 5:00 PM, and are determined upon hiring; weekends off; no overnight shifts.

Compensation: Hourly pay ranges from $18 to $24, based on healthcare experience; prior experience is not mandatory.

Key Responsibilities:

What You Will Be Involved In:

  • Actively engage in infection control, risk management, and patient education initiatives
  • Guide new patients through a comprehensive 120-day education program
  • Record patient vital signs and machine readings during treatment
  • Operate under the supervision of a registered nurse
  • Prepare and dismantle the dialysis blood system for treatment
  • Insert and remove patient access needles
  • Monitor patients during dialysis, document any changes, and communicate concerns to the charge nurse
  • Calculate patient weight loss to achieve dry weight
  • Assess patient care priorities and organize workload accordingly
  • Maintain a professional working relationship while respecting patient privacy and rights
  • Manage and track inventory
  • Conduct laboratory work as required
