Job Summary

Havenwyck Hospital is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Intake and Referral Manager to join our team of dedicated professionals. As a key member of our management team, you will be responsible for supervising the Assessment & Referral and Admitting department staff, ensuring the smooth operation of our hospital's intake and referral processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and mentor Assessment & Referral and Admitting department employees to ensure excellent patient care and service.
  • Conduct initial pre-authorizations reviews with insurance companies and Community Mental Health organizations as needed.
  • Provide feedback to the Director on staff performance evaluations and contribute to the development of staff development in-service programs.
  • Collaborate with the UM team to resolve issues related to new admissions, missing authorizations, and delays in securing authorizations.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of insurance verification and benefits.
  • Provide consultation to intake and admitting staff on referral information and screenings.
  • Perform audits on the intake call log, correcting discrepancies and educating staff on inconsistencies.
  • Communicate with physicians, program directors, and other stakeholders regarding anticipated admissions.
  • Provide follow-up to referral sources and patients awaiting admission.
  • Conduct phone screening evaluations to determine the appropriateness of admission to the hospital, in consultation with the staff psychiatrist or Medical Director.
  • Provide referral assistance for patients assessed as being inappropriate for admission.
  • Maintain accurate census board and reports for senior management.
  • Participate in marketing projects as necessary.
  • Coordinate admitting services to achieve payor-mix and census objectives.
  • Collect and analyze admitting statistics and report these to required offices.
  • Foster strong relationships with referral sources, patients, and families.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Master's degree in Social Work is required.
  • Minimum of one year of clinical and management experience in an inpatient psychiatric facility is preferred.
  • At least two to five years of clinical experience in a medical hospital setting is required.
  • Valid license as a Registered Nurse or Social Worker (LLMSW) in the State of Michigan is required, Fully Licensed Social Worker (LMSW) is preferred.
  • Employees must be in good standing (employment/corrective action history, evaluation, etc.) to be considered for internal transfers.
