Position Title: Explore & Grow Lead Teacher
Reports To: Program Director
Collaborative Team: Explore & Grow Staff
Role Summary: The Lead Teacher is tasked with designing and executing age-appropriate educational activities for children within their classroom each week. This role emphasizes the importance of fostering a secure, nurturing, and enriching environment while collaborating effectively with parents and colleagues.
Work Schedule: Full Time, 40 hours per week Classification: Hourly, non-exempt
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and facilitate engaging activities weekly across various subjects including science, mathematics, arts, language, music, spirituality, physical development, and cultural studies.
- Integrate spiritual teachings, including Bible stories and scripture, into daily classroom activities.
- Develop and submit weekly lesson plans for the Director's review prior to implementation.
- Create and maintain a safe, nurturing, and positive educational atmosphere.
- Uphold discipline in the classroom while treating each child with kindness, dignity, and respect, adhering to established licensing regulations.
- Establish clear, fair, and consistent behavioral expectations as outlined in the Parent Handbook.
- Assist children in developing conflict resolution skills through modeling and problem-solving techniques.
- Ensure the classroom is visually appealing and conducive to learning.
- Conduct student assessments, observations, and parent-teacher conferences.
- Foster positive interactions with parents, children, and visitors.
- Participate in staff meetings, parent events, and community outreach activities as requested by the Director.
- Maintain daily attendance records, including meal counts, or delegate this task to the Classroom Assistant.
- Share meals with children and engage in meaningful interactions.
- Administer medication when necessary.
- Communicate with families daily through the designated electronic platform.
- Supervise children during outdoor play, gym activities, special events, and field trips.
- Ensure compliance with all state regulations regarding child care and classroom management.
- Purchase minor educational supplies for the classroom and submit receipts for reimbursement.
- Collaborate with classroom assistants for evaluations, goal setting, and task delegation.
- Meet regularly with the Director for performance evaluations and goal setting.
- Attend mandatory annual training sessions, including CPR certification.
Qualifications:
- A genuine passion for serving children and their families.
- A committed Christian lifestyle in accordance with faith principles.
- Minimum age requirement of 19 years.
- Educational qualifications as mandated by the State of Michigan Department of Childcare Licensing for Lead Teacher roles.
- Prior experience in child care settings.
- Annual training in CPR and Blood Borne Pathogens.
- Completion of state-required training and ongoing professional development.
