Position Overview:

The Chief Executive Officer role at Catholic Charities, Diocese of Des Moines, is pivotal in steering the organization towards its mission of serving at-risk community members. This position entails overseeing a variety of operational functions and reports directly to the Bishop and the Board of Directors, underscoring a deep commitment to the principles of the Roman Catholic Church.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Board and Governance Engagement: Cultivate and support the Board of Directors, enhancing communication and presenting financial plans.
  • Strategic Direction: Formulate and execute the Strategic Plan in alignment with the organization’s mission and goals.
  • Advocacy for Social Justice: Partner on initiatives promoting social justice and advocate for Catholic Social Teaching.
  • Leadership and Administration: Ensure operational compliance with standards, mentor leadership teams, and make strategic growth decisions.
  • Financial Management and Oversight: Oversee financial performance, negotiate contracts, and deliver reports to the Board.
  • Development and Marketing: Collaborate on fundraising initiatives, manage donor relations, and oversee promotional efforts.
  • Program Oversight: Ensure adherence to regulations, monitor program effectiveness, and manage contracts and grants.
  • Community and External Relations: Represent the organization with partners, funders, and stakeholders while fostering community connections.
  • Internal Team Dynamics: Promote a positive workplace culture, ensuring alignment of programs with the organization’s mission and values.
Qualifications:
  • Must be a practicing Catholic with a Bachelor’s degree; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of ten years of leadership experience, ideally in nonprofit or social services.
  • Familiarity with the Catholic Church and a commitment to Catholic Social Teaching.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, organizational management, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Background in fundraising, financial oversight, and a passion for social justice.
  • Ability to inspire staff, engage stakeholders effectively, and meet necessary background checks.

Responsible for overseeing Cabinet Directors and the Executive Assistant, ensuring effective management of staffing and roles.
