Job Summary

We are seeking a part-time Physics Instructor to join our team at Kern Community College District. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a range of Physics and Astronomy courses, including lectures, discussions, and laboratory sessions. The instructor will also be expected to participate in student recruitment and articulation activities, maintain subject matter currency, and develop and revise curriculum.

Responsibilities
  • Teach Physics and Astronomy courses, including lectures, discussions, and laboratory sessions
  • Participate in student recruitment and articulation activities
  • Maintain subject matter currency
  • Develop and revise curriculum
  • Use computer and multimedia technology to enhance teaching and learning
  • Collegial participation in departmental, college, and discipline-specific professional activities
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Physics, Astronomy, or Astrophysics
  • OR Bachelor's degree in Physics or Astronomy and Master's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Meteorology, or Geophysics
  • OR The equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission
