Kern Community College District is seeking qualified candidates for a part-time adjunct faculty pool in Physics. The successful applicant will be expected to provide instruction in a full range of Physics/Astronomy courses.
Responsibilities- Teach Physics/Astronomy courses at various campus sites, including day and evening classes, weekend classes, and online courses.
- Develop and revise curriculum to ensure subject matter currency and alignment with departmental goals.
- Participate in student recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities.
- Use computer and multimedia technology to enhance teaching and learning.
- Collegial participation in departmental, college, and discipline-specific professional activities.
- Master's degree in Physics, Astronomy, or Astrophysics.
- OR Bachelor's degree in Physics or Astronomy and Master's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Meteorology, or Geophysics.
- OR The equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching, learning, and service to a diverse student population.
- Ability to effectively work with students with a wide range of skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals.
- Ability to develop curriculum, including curriculum delivered via different modalities.
- Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain subject matter currency.
- Ability to assess student learning outcomes.
- Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that would benefit the program.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission.
