Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Library Assistant I Circulation to join our team at the City of Burlington, VT. As a key member of our library staff, you will provide exceptional customer service, maintain a clean and organized library environment, and support the circulation and reference functions of the library.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide excellent customer service to patrons, responding to their inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain the circulation desk, including checking out and returning materials, processing fines and fees, and answering phone calls and emails.
  • Assist with shelving and maintaining the library's collection, including processing new materials and weeding out outdated or damaged items.
  • Support the reference function of the library, including answering research questions and providing guidance on library resources and services.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay up-to-date on library technologies and best practices.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years of experience in a public service setting, preferably in a library or customer service role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills, including experience with library software and technology.
