KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • The selected candidate will engage directly with clients and guide a team of engineers in defining project requirements, crafting specifications, and executing/testing/validating automation solutions.
  • This role encompasses leadership within the unit, necessitating strong analytical skills, effective interpersonal abilities, a focus on operational efficiency, and a commitment to fostering collaborative relationships.
  • A successful Mid- or Senior Controls Engineer will demonstrate their effectiveness by generating repeat business from both new and existing clients.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
  • The candidate must possess the capability to deliver creative automation solutions and design standards, either independently or as a team leader. This includes conceptualizing, detailing, and executing control systems for industrial applications that align with client specifications. Responsibilities involve developing control system architecture, selecting appropriate components, creating schematic diagrams and system documentation, programming controllers (PLC, DCS/Delta V), and developing process visualization (HMI/SCADA). Additionally, the role includes creating databases for historical data management and overseeing the implementation and commissioning of control systems at client sites.
  • Experience with industrial networking for connecting control system components and instrumentation is advantageous. The Controls Engineer will design and implement various communication systems using industrial protocols.
  • This position may also entail project management duties such as formulating project execution plans, establishing work breakdown structures and budgets, prioritizing tasks, tracking time and finances, identifying potential issues early, managing conflicts, leading teams, and participating in project meetings. Oversight of daily project operations, potentially involving budgets up to $10M, is also expected, with a focus on ensuring project profitability.
  • The ideal candidate will have a broad engineering skill set, the ability to work autonomously, and the capacity to act as a technical lead on projects while mentoring junior engineers and technicians. They may also serve as Project Manager for smaller initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Over 8 years of relevant experience in the following areas is preferred:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Emerson DeltaV platform.
  • Experience with PLC-5 to ControlLogix migrations.
  • Thorough understanding of PLC hardware/software platforms such as Rockwell Automation, Siemens, and Modicon.
  • Extensive knowledge of HMI/SCADA platforms including Servers, VM's, Networks, and various software solutions.
  • Familiarity with DCS platforms like Emerson DeltaV or similar systems.
  • Project Management experience, with PMP certification being a plus.
  • Understanding of Batch/Recipes, OEE, MES, and ERP systems.
  • Experience in sectors such as Semiconductor, Life Sciences, Building Automation, Food and Beverage, Water Treatment, and general manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in designing electrical schematics and control panels, including power distribution under 480VAC.
  • Experience with AutoCAD is desirable.
  • Experience leading teams to deliver control system solutions.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers.
  • Professional references from a subordinate, a peer, and a manager are preferred.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Willingness to travel up to 25%, primarily local.
