Multilingual Customer Support Specialist

Position Summary:
The role of the Multilingual Customer Support Specialist involves delivering exceptional interpretation and translation services to travelers, the general public, employees, and federal representatives within the airport's International Complex. This position requires assisting federal representatives during standard inspections of international travelers. The specialist will also clarify federal inspection protocols to international passengers and aid them with their travel documentation. Responsibilities include translating and interpreting written materials, signage, and literature related to airport operations and passenger services. In more complex situations, such as deportation or legal proceedings managed by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the specialist may be called upon for detailed translation and support. The Multilingual Customer Support Specialist is essential in fostering effective communication between passengers, airport stakeholders, and federal agents, ensuring a smooth operational flow within the Federal Inspection area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist federal representatives during the standard inspection of international travelers through translation services.
- Provide interpretation during intricate deportation and legal proceedings at the airport.
- Deliver information regarding airport, airline, and tourism in both English and Portuguese as needed.
- Support incoming international travelers with Automated Passport Control Kiosks.
- Maintain a positive public relations image by providing accurate and comprehensive information.
- Offer translation services to airport tenants and visitors.
- Manage public address announcements for arriving and departing flights, ensuring accurate paging requests.
- Assist employees and visitors throughout the International and Domestic Concourses.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires significant walking throughout the Arrivals and Departures levels, assisting airline and airport personnel, federal representatives, and travelers with information regarding the Federal Inspection process, flight schedules, and tourism. The role necessitates prolonged periods of standing and walking, as well as occasional computer work and paperwork.
Mental Requirements:
The position involves sensitive interactions with travelers, airline staff, and federal representatives, necessitating a strong sense of responsibility to provide accurate interpretation services and information. The specialist must explain complex federal regulations and procedures to international travelers and manage challenging deportation and legal situations under time constraints. The dynamic nature of airport operations may require immediate responses to various situations. This role demands a professional demeanor and a genuine willingness to assist individuals with diverse needs, including those with disabilities.
Qualifications:
- Possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
- A college degree is preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and Portuguese, both verbally and in writing, with demonstrated proficiency in at least one foreign language.
- Written and verbal communication testing in both languages will be required during the interview process.
- Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with TBI employees, airline staff, and federal representatives.
- Prior experience in a professional interpreting or translating environment is preferred.
