POSITION SUMMARY
The Service Advisor is responsible for selling and scheduling necessary service work within the service department.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:
- Scheduling service appointments and gathering customer and vehicle information prior to arrival.
- Welcoming customers promptly and courteously while collecting vehicle details.
- Accurately documenting customer vehicle issues on repair orders.
- Conducting test drives with customers as necessary to verify issues or referring to a technician.
- Reviewing service history, inspecting vehicles, and suggesting additional services as needed.
- Advising customers on vehicle maintenance in line with manufacturer specifications.
- Providing detailed and accurate written estimates for labor and parts.
- Establishing and communicating 'promised times' for service completion.
- Securing customer signatures on repair orders and providing copies to customers.
- Determining customer payment methods and obtaining necessary credit approvals.
- Informing dispatch of incoming work and monitoring repair progress throughout the day.
- Contacting customers regarding any changes to estimates or promised times, explaining costs and time requirements clearly.
- Implementing and maintaining a service marketing strategy.
- Reviewing repair orders to ensure completion and proper authorization for additional work.
- Ensuring vehicles are parked in designated areas, secured, and keys are properly stored.
- Keeping service department documentation, pricing guides, and menus current.
- Explaining completed work and associated charges to customers.
- Implementing quality control measures to minimize comebacks.
- Maintaining high standards of customer satisfaction.
- Handling phone inquiries related to appointments and ongoing work.
- Inspecting vehicles for bodywork needs and providing estimates when necessary.
- Overseeing the cleaning and preparation of new and used vehicles.
- Maintaining a professional appearance and a tidy work environment.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A one-year certificate from a college or technical school; or three to six months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
