Job Title: Accountant II

We are seeking a highly skilled Accountant II to join our team at Fairfax County Sheriff's Office. As an Accountant II, you will play a critical role in overseeing the financial accounting associated with banking general ledgers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and analyze bank transactions on a daily basis to ensure proper accounting treatment and recording of financial transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Prepare unclaimed property filings with each state, ensuring that all reporting deadlines are met.
  • Utilize the county's automated financial system, Microsoft Office Suite applications, and online banking applications to perform daily work.
  • Assist in the development and management of enhancements and changes to the financial system and in the coordination of external data.
  • Provide assistance to outside auditors by preparing work papers and financial reports as required.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
  • Two years of professional accounting experience, including one year of experience working with automated accounting systems.
  • CPA certification or a master's degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for one year of required experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience processing and analyzing complex financial transactions.
  • Experience interpreting and applying policies and regulations.
  • Experience with automated financial systems and skilled use of databases and applications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Excel, Word, Access, and Outlook Mail & Calendar.
