Job Summary

The Paralegal will provide clerical and research support to attorneys, including document preparation and review, client interviewing, and case research and investigation. This role requires a strong understanding of the Homeowner Protection Program and a commitment to providing excellent service to clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Effectively communicate with clients over the phone or in person to provide services
• Interview and screen clients facing mortgage or tax foreclosure, assess case status, and prepare case summaries
• Explain timelines to clients facing mortgage or tax foreclosure during interviews and case triaging
• Submit cases to managing attorneys for assignment
• Track mortgage and tax foreclosure cases and submit periodic status reports to managing attorneys
• Complete loss mitigation applications for mortgage foreclosure cases as directed by managing attorneys
• Maintain accurate records and statistics for timely reporting
• Record billable time and case notes in the case management system
• Prepare, organize, store, and retrieve case files
• Assist with grant reporting and tasks
• Support attorneys with trial preparation
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, judges, opposing counsel, and community members
• Engage in outreach and education efforts to reach community members, advocates, and service providers
• Attend and participate in meetings and trainings as requested

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree, Associate's degree, paralegal certificate, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
• Prior office experience, preferably in a legal environment
• Commitment to serving low-income community members
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office or related software and computerized legal research
• Willingness to learn new technology
• Bilingual or multilingual a plus
• Travel may be required
