Ophthalmic Technician

An Ophthalmic Technician is a vital member of our healthcare team, providing exceptional patient care and support to our ophthalmologists. Key Responsibilities- Assist in monitoring vital signs and transporting patients
- Maintain aseptic technique at all times, observing for any break in technique
- Care for contaminated items and assist in stocking OR supplies
- Check equipment, such as sterilizers and refrigerators, and document on monthly log sheets
- Assist in pre-op assessment, discontinuing Hep-Locks, and assisting in post-op instruction review with patients
- Act under the direct supervision of the nurse and perform fingerstick blood sugar tests
- Document results in medical records and assist physicians during laser procedures
- Report pertinent observations and reactions to nurses and/or physicians
- Identify patient and family teaching needs and initiate interventions
- Maintain a positive, safe environment for patients and coworkers
- Assist with emergency measures and monitor inventory levels
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one year of related experience
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and handle sensitive information
