Job Summary

The Maintenance Person will perform a variety of maintenance tasks within the MetroParks. This includes but is not limited to maintenance activities associated with the trades of carpentry, painting, dry wall, electrical work, roofing, forestry, mechanic, welding, excavation, paving, concrete, masonry, HVAC, landscaping, janitorial, snow removal, metal work, and equipment repair work.

Key Responsibilities
  • General Maintenance and Repair: 80%
    • Assist with minor electrical work, troubleshooting, and repair.
    • Assist with minor plumbing work and repair
    • Assist with miscellaneous carpentry & drywall repair work
    • Assist with minor roofing repair and maintenance
    • Perform janitorial services including building clean up, litter pick-up, etc.
    • Trail maintenance and repair including aggregate, asphalt, and drainage installation
    • Perform road, parking lot, and walkway maintenance
    • Perform snow and ice removal at all MetroParks Facilities including roads, sidewalks, etc.
    • Perform vehicle and equipment maintenance
    • Perform general lawn and landscape maintenance
    • Follow supervisor direction on best practices for safety and productivity
    • Painting of facilities
  • Equipment Operation: 10%
    • Operate project-specific vehicles and equipment including but not limited to; park vehicles, power tools, hand tools, survey, and measuring equipment.
    • Observe safe work methods and use proper safety equipment
    • Clean, maintain, and inspect equipment
  • Departmental Functions: 10%
    • Assist with MetroParks events as determined by Operations Supervisor or Manager
    • Provides intra-department support as determined by Operations Supervisor or Manager
    • Other duties as assigned
    Requirements
    • Must be at least 18 years old
    • Must possess and maintain a valid Ohio Driver's License
    • Must be able to respond to emergency call-outs as necessary
    • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
    • A minimum of one (1) year of general maintenance or construction experience involving various trades for both interior and exterior project types.
    Physical Requirements
    • Must be physically able to perform all tasks inherent to the position
    • Stamina to perform hard physical labor in indoor and outdoor environments
    • Ability to operate construction vehicles, such as dump trucks, backhoes, dozers, etc.
    • Ability to work from different degrees of height by using ladders, scaffolding, etc.
    • Ability to stand for long periods of time
    • Able to lift 50+ pounds
    • Must be able to use both hands to work with all necessary tools and equipment.
    • Able to bend and twist easily from waist
    • Ability to reach above head with both arms
    • Have excellent eye sight
    • Have physical and mental endurance to work long hours when necessary
    • Ability to walk, traverse, or otherwise access trails of all types, natural terrain, construction sites, and all properties under control of the MetroParks under all types of conditions
