Organ Recovery Specialist

The Organ Recovery Coordinator plays a critical role in the organ donation process, responsible for evaluating potential donors, maximizing medical management, and allocating donated organs. This position requires a unique blend of medical and social skills, as well as the ability to work independently and make critical decisions in a high-stress environment.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate potential organ donors and coordinate all aspects of the organ recovery process
- Maximize medical management and allocate donated organs according to established guidelines
- Communicate with medical examiners, justice of the peace, and other legal authorities to obtain clearance for organ recovery
- Document and communicate accurate past and current medical/social history of donors
- Follow established guidelines for medical management and screening/testing of organ donors
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in an ICU, NICU, CCU, SICU, NeuroICU, or TraumaICU environment
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or equivalent experience and training in an allied healthcare field
- Demonstrate teamwork, clinical, analytical, organizational, and communication skills in a high-stress environment
- Obtain BLS certification and ACLS certification within 12 months if primary role is donor management
This is a full-time exempt position with 24-hour on-call and second call responsibilities on a rotating basis. Assignments may require up to 24 hours of continuous service during periods of increased activity.
