Assistant Press Operator, 1st Shift

Job Summary
The Assistant Press Operator supports the set up and operation of a press or coater as well as support equipment. This role involves preparing the work zone and components before setups and during operation, loading and unloading of components during setup, and obtaining cardboard packaging, forming boxes, printing labels, packing finished material into boxes, and sealing entire units when finished.
Key Responsibilities
• Compliance with all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards, regulations, and rules
• Direct participation in EHS training, safety observations, and hazard identification
• Proactive implementation of Continuous Improvement (CI) activities through teamwork and CI process participation
• Monitoring and documenting product quality during all phases of operations
• Identifying and loading or unloading raw materials and finished goods
• Building and labeling boxes and pallets, then packing and sealing as needed
• Moving pallets, stacking them, and shrink wrapping in preparation for shipment
• Operating fan folder, sheeter, bagger, tape machine, turret, or other finishing equipment
• Directly supporting the setup of the press/coater and the turret/sheeter/folder or other finishing equipment
• Preparation, testing, and application of adhesives, inks, releases, or other chemistry to support operations
• Measuring and adjusting pH, viscosity, and color of ink, varnish, adhesive, or other chemistry
• Mounting printing plates and dies onto cylinders
• Assembling components to be put on prep carts to expedite machine setup
• Selecting, identifying, inserting, and removing plates, aniloxes or gravure cylinders from presses as well as components from turrets or finishing equipment
• Properly cleaning and storing aniloxes, gravure cylinders, or printing plates
• Reading and understanding job instructions and supporting documentation
• Covering a running machine during breaks or extended gaps during the day
• Maintaining 6S housekeeping standards of work zones and walkways
• Directly supporting training and cross-training of other coworkers
• Supporting inspection and rework of materials as needed
• Contributing to a team effort by proactively assisting coworkers
• Performing other duties as assigned
Requirements
• Manufacturing experience preferred
• High School Diploma or GED
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Basic computer and math skills
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
• Ability to read scale within 1/64
• Ability to enter data legibly and accurately into forms as well as computers
• Ability to read, write, interpret, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos
• Ability to read and understand work orders and ask questions
• Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and all levels of management
• Ability to work as a team with others to meet business requirements
• Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance
Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions
• Regular exposure to manufacturing environment with one or more unpleasant hazardous conditions including but not limited to exposure to dust, dirt, high noise levels, chemicals more than 50% of the work time
• Ability to lift products up to 50 lbs multiple times per day
• Ability to repetitively lift 25 lbs frequently
• Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time
• Other physical demands include climbing, crouching, bending, reaching, stooping, etc.
• Continuous contact with other people requiring communications via face-to-face, orally by telephone, and various written methodologies
• Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or 20lbs of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body
• Standing: Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time
• Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another
• Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to others accurately, loudly, or quickly
• Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound
• Visual Acuity: Able to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading
