About the Role

The Motor Vehicle Inspector position is a critical component of the Enforcement & Safety Division at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). As a sworn law enforcement officer, you will be responsible for protecting Vermont consumers through enforcement and education at licensed inspection stations and dealerships. Your expertise will also be utilized to protect the identity of DMV customers and prevent fraudulent activity. Additionally, you will work to ensure participants in the Total Abstinence (TA) Program are adequately monitored and held accountable for program requirements. A strong investigative background and knowledge of automotive diagnostics and repair are highly desirable for this role.

Responsibilities
  • Enforce laws and regulations related to motor vehicle inspections and consumer protection
  • Conduct investigations and gather evidence to prevent fraudulent activity
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with the Total Abstinence (TA) Program
  • Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and DMV staff to achieve common goals
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must have a high school diploma and three years of law enforcement experience. You must also be a full-time certified Vermont law enforcement officer at the time of hire and possess a current valid driver's license. A background in automotive diagnostics and repair is preferred.
