Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Scribe Specialist to join our team at Pennsylvania Medicine. As an Ophthalmic Scribe Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting our ophthalmologists by accurately documenting patient information and assisting with the management of patient flow.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accompany ophthalmologists into examination areas and assist with documentation of patient medical records.
  • Log onto electronic health records system under own credentials and document results of physician's findings.
  • Designate correct colored dots for patient encounters and ensure accurate workflow.
  • Print After Visit Summaries, Medication RX, and Eyeglass RX for patients.
  • Perform Universal Protocol for patients undergoing procedures.
  • Train other scribes as assigned by manager.
  • Assist with managing patient flow and calling patients into examination rooms.
  • Act as facilitator for patients and escort patients to various locations as needed.
  • Ability to travel to different department locations.
  • Assist manager with clerical duties and perform errands between departments.
  • Ensure medications are secured at all times and report instrument and equipment problems to manager.
  • Respond to patient inquiries and perform duties in accordance with Penn Medicine values and policies.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 0-1 years of experience in healthcare or as a medical secretary.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external constituents.
  • Ability to work effectively with a range of business, clinical, and academic leaders.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to utilize computer software.
