Position Overview - Safety and Security Specialist
JOB SUMMARY
The Safety and Security Specialist is tasked with maintaining a secure and welcoming environment, prioritizing safety and customer service. This role involves enforcing institutional policies, documenting security incidents, managing traffic flow, and assisting patients and visitors with minor vehicle issues.
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring the security of infant and newborn units.
- Participating in various emergency response situations.
- Engaging in facility lockdown procedures.
- Safeguarding and recording patient valuables.
- Conducting routine physical security inspections across local facilities.
Qualified candidates will support emergency response codes, provide a visible security presence in critical care areas, and assist in restraining potentially dangerous individuals when necessary. This position requires adherence to the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or G.E.D. is preferred. Candidates must possess a valid Florida driver’s license and obtain a Florida Security license (Class 'D'), de-escalation training (such as MOAB or CPI), and Basic Life Support (CPR/AED) certification within six months of employment.
Additionally, candidates are required to achieve Basic International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) certification within one year of employment.
