We are in search of a Senior Staff Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Subject Matter Expert to join our team.

Job Overview

We are currently on the lookout for a Senior Staff Systems Engineer specializing in Missile Development to collaborate with our accomplished Advanced Weapons team.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting, directing, and spearheading the systems engineering initiatives on key projects as part of the Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test (SEIT) Team. This includes the application of MBSE frameworks, methodologies, and training in alignment with SysML and UML industry standards. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical leadership and a mentoring approach, with a proven track record in dynamic, fast-paced systems engineering environments. The ideal candidate must possess the capability to operate across various sectors and business units, ensuring uniformity in the application and understanding of MBSE and Agile methodologies. Responsibilities include analyzing, developing, and managing system architecture models pertinent to missile weapon systems. The candidate will be expected to interface and provide briefings to Integrated Product Team (IPT) Leads, Chief Engineers, Program Management, and customers. This role necessitates close collaboration with team members from different functional areas to fulfill customer requirements while adhering to system architecting processes and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and facilitate core functions, ensuring the project team is equipped with qualified personnel to execute program objectives.
  • Guarantee technical compliance with the program Statement of Work (SOW) and system requirements.
  • Oversee vertical and horizontal technical integration throughout the product and program life cycles.
  • Manage risks and opportunities, producing essential engineering work products while tracking dependencies within the program schedule.
  • Coordinate with the System Architect, Chief Engineer, Product Team Leads, program manager, and customers to maintain the integrity and feasibility of the program's technical baseline.
  • Collect, manage, and report on program metrics and Technical Performance Measures (TPMs).
  • Align measurement objectives and activities to achieve program performance goals.
  • Develop advanced systems architecture strategies and guide their implementation into final products impacting various programs.
  • Lead systems engineering efforts to promote a standardized approach to MBSE and Agile methodologies across multiple projects.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to other technical staff in applying advanced MBSE and Agile principles, tools, and techniques to achieve effective outcomes.
  • Act as the organization's representative on multiple advanced projects and programs, influencing both technical and non-technical aspects from an MBSE and Agile perspective.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to enhance system development utilizing model-based systems engineering principles.
  • Serve as an advisor to management, colleagues, and clients on advanced applications of MBSE and Agile methodologies in technical research and applications.
  • Maintain essential external customer interactions to comprehend their technical requirements, ensuring missile regional architecture aligns with current and future needs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in a relevant engineering discipline with a minimum of fourteen (14) years of experience throughout the full program and product life cycle.
  • Active DoD security clearance.
  • Proficiency with systems engineering tools such as Cameo, IBM Rational DOORS, and Rhapsody.
  • Experience in software and hardware development.
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering initiatives across the entire product lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with configuration management processes using product lifecycle management tools.
  • Ability to define, lead, and oversee the development of system architectures for complex systems using model-based systems engineering methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering processes from Integrated Master Plan (IMP) generation to Work Product Breakdown into Integrated Master Schedules (IMS).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Systems Engineering with extensive experience in the aerospace and defense sector.
  • Experience in software and hardware development, including Programmable Logic (PL) development, system safety, reliability, and product line engineering.
  • Experience as a Product Owner for Agile teams, providing coaching and mentorship to enhance Agile knowledge and skills.
  • Experience in driving model-based systems engineering and Agile transformation initiatives across multiple programs.
  • Experience in leading the development and implementation of model-based systems engineering strategies.
  • Experience in Missile/Weapon development and sustainment programs.
  • Possession of advanced certifications in model-based systems engineering and Agile methodologies.
  • Familiarity with CMMI models.
  • Experience with design for manufacturing and inspection.
  • Experience in integration and testing, system safety, reliability, and product line engineering.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards.

Salary Range: $183,100 - $274,700. This range serves as a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers various factors when determining base salary offers, including the scope and responsibilities of the position, along with the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.
