Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team at Uncommon Schools NYC. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality education to students with special needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instruction
    • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that cater to the unique needs of each student.
    • Collaborate with general education teachers and other support staff to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive learning environment.
    • Provide academic, emotional, and physical support to students, while maintaining high expectations for their growth and development.
  • Special Education Specific Responsibilities
    • Manage a caseload of IEPs, including gathering academic growth data, writing IEPs, and participating in IEP meetings.
    • Collaborate with families and other stakeholders to develop and implement strategies to support students' learning needs.
    • Teach pull-out, push-in, small group, and one-on-one instruction, and implement strategies to differentiate instruction for all learners in the classroom.
  • School Culture
    • Build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues to create a supportive and inclusive school community.
    • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge in special education.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement school-wide initiatives that promote academic achievement and social-emotional growth.

  • A demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective IEPs and instructional strategies.
  • An enthusiasm for collaborating with colleagues and families to support student growth and development.
  • A self-directed learner who is committed to ongoing professional development and growth.
  • Required Experience:
    • A minimum of 1-2 years of experience working with students with special needs.
    • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with a focus on special education or a related field.
    • Certification in special education is preferred, but not required.
