About the Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Senior Data Scientist to join our team as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate. This is an annually renewable professional academic appointment that will provide you with the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research projects in health data science, artificial intelligence, and natural language processing.

Job Description

The Department of Surgery at the University of Minnesota is looking for two talented individuals to work on multiple research projects in the Division of Health Data Science. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will be responsible for developing and implementing novel data science methods to analyze biomedical big data for advancing healthcare. Your expertise in machine learning, neural networks, and deep learning will be crucial in designing and executing algorithms for various health and biomedical informatics projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Risk predictive modeling for clinical outcomes
  • Causal representation learning for real-world data
  • Deep learning interpretation, fairness, and robustness
  • Regularly conduct computational experiments to execute algorithms on various health and biomedical informatics projects
  • Assist with new project development, including literature review and study design
  • Work under general supervision but have latitude to make decisions on projects
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Ph.D. degree in Biomedical/Health Informatics, Computer Science, Information Science, Computational Linguistics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical field
  • Strong programming skills in Python, Java, etc.
  • Expertise in machine learning, neural networks, and deep learning
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment
