The University of Minnesota, Twin Cities is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scientist to join our dynamic research team in the Department of Plant & Microbial Biology. Our lab focuses on understanding the mechanisms by which plant hormones regulate cell expansion during growth and development.
About the Job
We are looking for a talented individual to conduct cutting-edge research into the auxin signaling pathway using Arabidopsis thaliana as a model organism. The successful candidate will design and execute experiments, analyze data, and contribute to the preparation of manuscripts for publication. This is an excellent opportunity to develop independent research skills and provide significant input into the project's direction.
Job Responsibilities:
- Research Experiments (75%): Design and conduct molecular and genetic experiments, including generation and characterization of Arabidopsis mutants, creation of transgenic plants, protein purification, enzyme and protein interaction assays, standard molecular biological manipulations, and analysis of gene/protein expression/regulation.
- Result Preparation (10%): Compile and analyze data, prepare figures, and contribute to manuscript writing and presentation at national/international meetings.
- Data Archiving (5%): Maintain accurate records of all experiments performed, generated reagents, and strains/DNA constructs.
- Laboratory Citizenship (5%): Assist with laboratory housekeeping duties, train undergraduate researchers, and supervise new lab members.
- Community Engagement (5%): Participate in local science events and collaborate with other research groups.
Qualifications:
Candidates should hold a PhD in genetics, cell/molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field, with extensive experience in molecular techniques and demonstrated ability to independently design and carry out research projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with protein purification, mass spectrometry, confocal microscopy, and a broad background in biochemistry and genetics is preferred but not essential.
Salary: $55,000 - $65,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
