Job Title: Instructional Designer

Mental Health & Addiction Association of Oregon (MHAAO) is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer to join our team. As an Instructional Designer, you will be responsible for developing curriculum materials and resources to support the professional development of the Peer Workforce, MHAAO staff, and community partners.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify and analyze the learning needs of the Peer Workforce, including both internal staff and external Peers working in the field.
  • Tailor educational content to meet the specific needs of various peer groups, ensuring relevance and cultural sensitivity.
  • Design and develop instructional materials and programs, including courses, workshops, e-learning modules, and training guides.
  • Produce high-quality content that aligns with MHAAO's goals and is accessible to diverse audiences.
  • Apply instructional design theories and models to structure content effectively and ensure it meets educational objectives.
  • Work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), OPTIC Director, peers, facilitators, and organizational leaders, to gather information and ensure the accuracy and relevance of the content.
  • Develop and implement methods for assessing the effectiveness of instructional materials and programs. Use feedback and evaluation results to continuously improve quality.
  • Utilize and integrate educational technologies and tools to enhance learning experiences and accessibility.
  • Integrate multimedia elements such as videos, audio, and interactive activities to enhance the learning experience.
  • Provide technical support for learners and trainers using online learning tools and platforms.
  • Stay current with the latest research and trends in instructional design, peer support, and adult education.
  • Identify and develop additional resources that support the curriculum, such as handouts, worksheets, and online tools.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of design processes, revisions, and outcomes. Prepare reports on project status and impact for internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements:
  • Strong working knowledge of peer support principles and values, peer work, mental health, addiction, and recovery services, treatment programs, and services, and social service systems and agencies.
  • Skilled in organization and workload management with the ability to navigate changes in the moment as needs and priorities require.
  • Skilled at working in team-based environments that encourage collaboration and autonomy while engaging with folks at all levels within the agency.
  • Able to learn and continue to operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer, laptop computer, photocopier, scanner, printer, postage meter, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing for multiple audiences and situations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with technological platforms such as Microsoft Office suite, comfort in navigating existing and emerging learning management systems, video editing platforms, and other various curriculum development tools.

  • A person who identifies with having lived experience of mental health, addiction recovery, or both is preferred.
  • Candidates with lived SUD experience must have a minimum of 2 years continuous recovery prior to date of hire.
  • Possesses an absolute belief in every person's ability to learn, grow, and recover.
  • Possesses insight of personal biases and worldviews and how they may interfere with effectively working with individuals representing a variety of cultural, ethnic, language, and life experiences.
