Therapeutic Residential Program Lead

The Children's Crisis Residence is a short-term, therapeutic residential program designed to support youth ages 10-17 experiencing emotional, behavioral, or mental health crises. The residence provides a structured, safe environment where children receive individualized care, including crisis intervention, counseling, and daily living support. The goal is to stabilize the child, address immediate mental health needs, and prepare them for a successful transition back to their home or to a long-term care setting.
The Senior Residential Counselor will act as the team lead for specific designated shifts, overseeing duties of front-line staff and providing daily support as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Will serve as the team lead for the designated shift and have daily oversight of front-line staff.
- Participate in the development and implementation of ongoing activities within the program.
- Manage crisis situations in a manner that reflects Trauma Informed Care.
- Ensure the health and safety of the youth for the duration of their stay.
- Assist the youth in maintaining a clean and safe environment.
- Regularly participate in staff meetings and supervision.
- Supervise youth in their daily routine in accordance with agency policy and program protocols.
- Provide ongoing support for residence counselors and demonstrate the ability to de-escalate clients.
- Assist youth in identifying and practicing on-the-spot coping skills and strategies.
- Ensure that residence counselors complete their end-of-shift documentation.
- Consistently demonstrates a strength-based approach, Trauma Informed Care, and de-escalation techniques.
- Assist youth in developing Independent Living skills (i.e. laundry, cooking, shopping, etc).
- Schedule may vary depending on the needs of the program.
- Adhere to the agency's policy and procedure.
- Participate in training sessions and stay current with training updates as required.
- Attend agency in-services, workshops, and seminars as required.
- Complete all required documentation in a comprehensive and timely manner.
- Shifts may vary, and staff may be required to work differential shifts as a relief or rotation.
- Additional duties may be assigned on an as needed basis.
Education / Experience:
- Individuals must be 21 years of age or older.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent. 1-year experience and/or training in the areas of residential living, transitional youth, or human services; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- All staff must be cleared with the New York State Central Registry, New York State Justice Center, and complete a background check/fingerprinting in accordance with 14 NYCRR Part 550 regarding criminal background checks, and NYS Social Services Law Section 424 regarding the child abuse and neglect registry.
- Valid New York State driver's license and reliable transportation is required.
