Job Summary

This position is responsible for managing patient accounts, billing, and insurance coordination within Intermountain Health's policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Greets Patients and Responds to Inquiries: Greet patients, answer phone calls, take messages, return calls, and provide necessary information while documenting all interactions accurately and completely in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  2. Schedules Appointments and Registers Patients: Schedule patient appointments for visits, procedures, diagnostic tests, referrals, and consultations. Register patients, confirming, entering, and/or updating all required demographic data on the registration system.
  3. Obtains and Verifies Insurance Information: Obtain copies of insurance cards, forms of ID, and signatures on all required forms. Verify information on appropriate accounts to determine insurance coordination of benefits, pre-certification/prior-authorization, and complete the Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) questionnaire when applicable.
  4. Collects Patient Payments and Provides Accurate Receipts: Inform self-pay patients of liability due and prepayment requirements. Prepare estimates of procedures, calculate advance payment requirements on previous or bad debt and current balances. Collect patient payments and provide accurate receipts, posting payments in the system and reconciling receipts with cash collected.
  5. Maintains Department and Individual Work Queues and Reports: Maintain department and/or individual work queues and reports as required.
  6. Prepares Medical Records for Patient Appointments: Prepare medical records for patient appointments by compiling information from various sources, including authorizations and non-Epic documentation. Accurately scan medical records as required for Medical Group or specialty office.
  7. Promotes Mission, Vision, and Values of Intermountain Health: Promote the mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health and abide by service behavior standards.
Requirements
  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent: A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  2. Customer Service Experience: One (1) year customer service experience is preferred.
  3. Related/Medical Field Experience: One (1) year experience in a related/medical field is preferred.
  4. Understanding of Medical Terminology: Understanding of medical terminology is preferred.
Physical Requirements

Interact with others by effectively communicating, both orally and in writing. Operate computers and other office equipment requiring the ability to move fingers and hands. See and read computer monitors and documents. Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment. May require lifting and transporting objects and office supplies, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
