Lead Legal Counsel

Oglethorpe Power Corporation, a prominent electric generation cooperative, is seeking a highly skilled and proactive attorney to fill the role of Senior Counsel. Our organization, based in Tucker, Georgia, operates on a not-for-profit basis and serves over four million people through a diverse range of generation assets, including nuclear, natural gas, coal, and hydroelectric power.
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication abilities, a creative mindset, and a strong focus on solutions. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, the Senior Counsel will play a vital role within our well-integrated legal department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Structuring, drafting, negotiating, and interpreting complex procurement and construction agreements.
- Providing legal counsel on corporate governance, authority, and policy matters.
- Overseeing and guiding external legal counsel on specialized regulatory compliance issues.
- Advising on various legal matters pertaining to plant operations, including dispute resolution.
- Establishing and maintaining legal templates and processes, while negotiating vendor requests for deviations.
This position offers the opportunity to engage with and advise senior leadership and clients across multiple departments. Candidates with experience in energy, construction, plant development, engineering procurement and construction (EPC) contracts, high-value procurement, industrial operations, federal procurement, environmental law, highly regulated industries, and real estate will be highly regarded.

Qualifications:
- Education: Juris Doctor Degree and a College Degree.
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years, including at least 3 years in a medium to large law firm environment.
- Skills: Strategic thinking, strong legal and business judgment, excellent written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and the ability to build collaborative relationships.
Licenses: J.D. and licensed to practice law in the State of Georgia.
Oglethorpe offers a hybrid work environment with in-person requirements and the flexibility of remote work one day per week. Travel is minimal, limited to within the State of Georgia.
