Job Summary

The City of Charlotte is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Field Communications Supervisor/Radio Fleet Supervisor to join our team. This is a critical role that requires strong leadership and technical skills to oversee the Charlotte Fire Communications Field Communications team and radio fleet.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage the Fire Communications Field Communications team, including training and development of team members.
  • Oversee the radio fleet, including maintenance, programming, and inventory management.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for team members and other stakeholders on radio use, interoperability, and tactical communications.
  • Work with state and local agencies to ensure communications interoperability and coordinate deployments.
  • Manage the Charlotte Fire Department radio fleet, including coordination of programming, end-of-life cycles, repairs, and alias changes.
Requirements
  • Considerable knowledge and operational experience of multi-channel radio and multi-line telephone systems.
  • Superior organizational skills and ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly and distinctly, and to think outside the box to meet goals.
  • Valid NC Emergency Vehicle Driver Certification and ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800 certifications.
  • Minimum of one to two years of experience in Fire Communications, preferably within the Charlotte Fire Communications Division.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Communications, dispatch, or other public contact experience, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one to two years of experience within the Charlotte Fire Communications Division or possess comparable leadership experience external to the division.
Working Conditions

The Communications Division operates on a 24x7 365-day basis. This position is an hourly, 40-hour work week schedule with flexible start and end times based on workload and job tasks.

This position may be subject to extended work hours and long-term deployments for natural disasters, emergencies, or to support CFD, CMEMO, NCEM, or FEMA.
