The Veterans Fellowship Program is tailored to facilitate a smooth transition for veterans from active duty to the civilian workforce, offering an exceptional chance to acquire practical work experience within our integrated aviation environment. Responsibilities may vary significantly based on departmental needs.

This one-year fellowship presents an excellent opportunity for veterans demonstrating initiative. Selected individuals will gain hands-on experience in our aviation environment, with valuable growth opportunities including:

  • Practical work experience.
  • Enhanced understanding of the diverse aspects of the aviation industry.
  • Workshops led by subject matter experts covering resume writing, interview techniques, networking, and corporate practices.
  • Networking opportunities with leadership and fellow employees.
  • Insights from team members who have successfully transitioned from military to civilian roles.

Key Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate for the Veteran Fellowship - Airside Operations Manager will uphold safety and security standards in accordance with established mandates, policies, and procedures:

  • Oversee all aspects of airport emergencies and operational activities, ensuring safety and security on the airfield, taxiways, and airside.
  • Manage FAR Part 139 programs, including airfield safety inspections, signage, lighting, pavement management, and wildlife management.
  • Act as a liaison with contractors during construction and maintenance projects.
  • Issue NOTAMs and communicate operational advisories to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate responses to airport emergencies in collaboration with first responder agencies.
  • Manage aircraft gate schedules and parking assignments.
  • Maintain and strengthen partnerships with stakeholders, ensuring effective customer service.
  • Develop reports, maintain operational logs, and participate in industry meetings.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on airfield and airport infrastructure.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of three (3) years of active duty or mobilized reserve service.
  • Documentation of an Honorable discharge (DD214) is required.
  • A valid California Class C driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Authority's vehicle insurance policy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BA degree in Aviation Management or a related field.
  • Three years of experience in air traffic control or airfield operations.

Compensation: The hiring salary is $27.88 per hour. Responsibilities may require flexibility to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
