Job Summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is seeking a highly skilled Radiation Safety Officer to join our team. As a key member of our Environmental Health & Safety Department, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe use of ionizing radiation and radioactive materials in our clinical and research settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the daily operations of the Radiation Safety Program, including scheduling surveys and audits, leak tests, calibrations, and air emissions reports.
  • Consult with employees and patients on radiation exposure hazards and provide training on safe practices.
  • Review and evaluate dosimetry results and calibrate portable survey instruments.
  • Develop and implement radiation safety policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with clinicians and healthcare workers to ensure safe use of radioactive materials and radiation-producing machines.
  • Coordinate training for technicians in Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Oncology, and other areas as needed.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Health Physics or a related field, with at least one year of experience in radiation safety.
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Eligibility for Certified Health Physicist (CHP) certification within five years.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Health Physicist (CHP) certification.
  • Master's degree in Health Physics, Engineering, or Science.
  • Experience in a research setting.
