Job Summary

This role is designed to provide essential support to students with special education needs under the guidance of a teacher.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to maintain a calm demeanor in challenging situations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily Support: Assist students with academic tasks, reinforcing previously taught material as directed by teachers.
  • Classroom Management: Implement policies and regulations, ensuring a safe and organized learning environment.
  • Caregiving Services: Provide direct care for students, including feeding, toileting, and personal hygiene under staff supervision.
  • Student Safety: Take all necessary precautions to protect students from harm.
  • Behavior Management: Respond calmly to students displaying aggressive behavior.
  • Escort Duties: Meet and/or escort students at designated times.
  • Professional Attitude: Demonstrate a positive and cooperative attitude when performing tasks.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality of information about students and employees.

Requirements

  • Qualifications: Completion of the 20-hour Substitute Training Course or passing the Paraprofessional Exam by start date or 60+ college credits.
  • Experience: Prior experience in a school setting and/or working with young people is preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent Standing: Frequent standing, stooping, bending, and kneeling.
  • Building Movement: Frequent movement throughout the building and ability to walk long distances.
  • Lifting: Lifting up to 30 pounds regularly and assisting students with movement.
  • Redirecting Students: Closely following a mobile student and redirecting them back to class or activity.

Compensation Package

An estimated $42,500 - $52,000 per year, making it an attractive opportunity for those passionate about supporting students' educational journeys.
